KITCHEN CABINET PAINTING AND REFINISHING

A new kitchen look without the cost of new cabinets. Doors come off, get degreased and primed, and go back with a hard cabinet-grade finish.

HOW WE WORK

CABINET PAINTING DONE PROPERLY

If your cabinet boxes are sound, painting them is one of the best-value updates in a house. New custom cabinets often cost several times what a proper paint job does, and the finished kitchen reads as new.

The gap between a good and a bad cabinet job is almost entirely prep. Kitchen cabinets carry years of grease and hand oils, and paint applied over that peels at the edges within months. We take the work apart, clean and deglaze every surface, prime, and finish in a product made for cabinets.

HOW MUCH CABINET PAINTING COSTS

For a standard kitchen, professional cabinet painting generally runs $3,000 to $9,000, depending on the number of doors and drawers, whether there is an island, and the condition of the existing finish. Most projects finish in three to five days. New cabinets for the same kitchen often run $15,000 to $40,000 or more.

SCOPE

HOW WE PAINT KITCHEN CABINETS

DISASSEMBLY

Doors, drawer fronts, and hardware come off and are labeled so everything goes back where it belongs.

DEGREASE AND SAND

Every surface is degreased, then sanded or deglossed so primer can grip. This step decides how long the finish lasts.

PRIMER

A bonding primer seals the surface and blocks stains and wood tannins from bleeding through the color.

CABINET-GRADE FINISH

Two coats of Benjamin Moore Advance or Sherwin-Williams Emerald Urethane, chosen for hardness and a smooth, level look.

BOXES AND FRAMES

The cabinet boxes are masked, protected, and painted in place, including faces, end panels, and toe kicks.

CURE AND REINSTALL

Doors are handled after the finish has hardened enough to resist marks, then rehung and adjusted.

Colorado air is dry, so cabinet finishes skin over quickly. We pick products and working methods that stay level rather than showing brush marks, and we control how fast we move.

Bring photos of any bathroom vanities or built-ins you would like updated when you request an estimate, and we will scope them with the kitchen.

We serve Loveland, Boulder, and Estes Park, plus Berthoud, Johnstown, Lyons, and the Rocky Mountain National Park corridor.

COMMON QUESTIONS

CABINET PAINTING FAQ

How much does it cost to paint kitchen cabinets?

Most kitchens run $3,000 to $9,000 with professional painting. A small galley kitchen costs less, and a large kitchen with an island and many drawer fronts costs more. We give a free written estimate after seeing the space.

Is it cheaper to paint cabinets or replace them?

Painting costs a fraction of replacement. New cabinets for a typical kitchen often run $15,000 to $40,000 or more with installation. If the boxes are sound, painting is usually the better value.

Can you paint over cabinets without sanding?

Some deglossing products reduce the sanding needed, but cabinets still need a thorough degrease and a bonding primer. Skipping surface prep is the most common reason cabinet paint chips.

How long does cabinet painting take?

Most kitchens take three to five days. The finish keeps hardening for a few weeks after, so we advise gentle use during that time.

Is it better to spray or brush cabinets?

Sprayed finishes are typically the smoothest, and brushed and rolled finishes can look excellent with the right product and technique. We explain the method in your estimate.

Is painting kitchen cabinets a good idea?

Yes, if the cabinet boxes and doors are in good structural shape. If doors are warped, boxes are water damaged, or the layout does not work, replacement or refacing may make more sense.
